STRAWBERRY

The kale is a member of the cabbage family. It is widely grown and consumed in Kenya. Kales provide vitamins and minerals that protect our bodies against diseases.

Varieties

The current varieties grown in Kenya include: Chanderler, Douglas, Aiko, Cambridge and Favourite.

WATER MELON (Citrulus lanatus)

Watermelon belongs to the family Cucurbitaceae. It is related to the cantaloupe, squash, pumpkin and other plants that also grow on vines on the ground. Watermelons can be round, oblong or spherical in shape and feature thick green rinds that are often spotted or striped. Watermelon has extremely high water content, approximately 92%, giving its flesh a crumbly and subtly crunchy texture and making it a favourite thirst- quenching fruit. The fruit is an excellent source of vitamin C. It is also a very good source of vitamin A and B6. In addition, watermelon is a good source of thiamine, potassium and magnesium.
